Hornet Volleyball Defeats Va. Wesleyan in Four

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team rallied Wednesday evening for an important 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 26-24 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup.

After the teams split the first two games, the Marlins led 20-14 in game three. The Hornets won the next five points to draw within one point. The game was tied at 23 all, and VWC made two errors to close out the game.

The fourth game was tight the entire way. LC led 24-22, but the Marlins won the next two points to tie it back up. After a Marlin service error, sophomore Gabby Myers closed out the match with a service ace.

Freshman Amanda Perry slammed a match-high 11 kills for LC, with eight digs. Brittany Crawford hit 10 kills in only 20 attempts and also had 11 digs. Jennifer Garrett had nine kills and seven digs, while Aricquel Payne had eight kills and 11 digs. Mackenzie Ross had a match-high 29 assists with 10 digs and Myers added 16 assists. Sierra Strathy posted five blocks.

Tempe Martens had a team-high nine kills for Virginia Wesleyan (12-10/5-3 ODAC) with 12 digs. Kelsey Caviston had eight kills, Kirstin Sessoms had 17 kills, and Marin Crowder had 20 digs.

The Hornets (10-11/5-3) host Roanoke College Friday at 6:30 p.m. in another ODAC match.
