LC Volleyball Drops Championship to W & L

ASHLAND, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team dropped the championship match of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament in four sets.  The #2-seed Washington and Lee Generals defeated the #4-seed Hornets 21-25, 25-23, 25-22, and 25-22 to win the ODAC title.

LC took the lead early in the first set at 8-7 and never looked back.  The Hornets held on to the lead the rest of the set to take a lead overall.  Aricquel Payne registered five kills in the set and Rebecca Loftis had five kills as well.

The Generals would not be deterred after losing the first set.  Led by the trio of Anna Lausberg (21 kills), M. A. Boles (19 kills), and Maddie Kosar (14 kills), Washington and Lee would take the next three games.  However, the Hornets did not go quietly, with their largest deficit of any game coming at seven points.  But in the spirit they had shown throughout the tournament, Lynchburg rallied back and cut the lead to three before falling in that second set.

Payne and Loftis led the Hornets with 16 and 14 kills respectively.  After hitting at .522 clip in the semifinals, Loftis followed it with an impressive .433 percentage in the finals.  Seniors Rachel Turk and Brooke Moughon handled the setting duties in their final game.  Turk had 22 assists and Moughon had 16 assists.  With 1799 and 2140 Moughon is finishes her career sixth all-time and Turk finishes as the second all-time setter.

Payne and senior libero Molly Deacon were named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts.

LC (24-10 overall) finishes the season with the most wins in a season since the 1981 team that was recently inducted into the Lynchburg College Hall of Fame.
