The Lynchburg College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our Hornet of the Week. The eighth student-athlete selected this year is volleyball senior Rebecca Loftis.
Rebecca had an impressive week for Lynchburg, helping the Hornets win all four matches they played. She registered 33 kills, with 13 coming in the Senior Day win over Catholic University of America. Rebecca also had a solid week defensively, recording five digs and eight blocks.
How do you think being a student-athlete has affected you personally?
I think being a student athlete has taught me a lot about time management and keeping priorities straight. We work hard in the classroom and on the court. I couldn't imagine not being a student-athlete.
What is your favorite moment thus far as a Hornet?
I think my favorite moment as a Hornet had to be my sophomore year when we rallied back to beat W & L in 5 games on our home court. There was so much energy from the fans and from our team it really was one of my favorite games ever.
What do you like most about LC volleyball?
What I love most about LC volleyball isn't what we do on the court; it's what we do off the court. It's normal for us to hang out even after we've seen each other all week at practice because the girls on the team aren't just teammates; they're my best friends. We truly are a family.
What was it like to register to 13 kills in a win on Senior Day?
It felt great....I wanted to leave everything I had on our court. We were all really excited to play and we were coming off great wins over EMU and Bridgewater. I couldn't have done it without my team, especially my setters Brooke and Turk.
