Hornets Extend Win Streak to Nine Matches with Victories at Goucher Invite

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College volleyball team was challenged in the first match of the Goucher Invitational by Frostburg State (4-19) before winning 23-25, 25-11, 25-21, 24-26, 16-14 on Friday afternoon in Towson, MD.

The Hornets captured a lot of momentum in the second set to knot the match at one set a piece before winning a huge third set to put the pressure back on the Bobcats. LC held on in the fifth set to win by the narrowest of margins.

Sophomore Aricquel Payne led the Hornets with 14 kills. Sophomore Brittany Crawford was second with eight kills and 16 digs. Rachel Turk once again was a huge part of the Hornets' success. The senior setter has 30 of the team's 35 assists while collecting a team-high 23 digs.

Lynchburg followed up that hard-fought battle with a three-set victory over McDaniel College, 25-11, 25-12, 25-17. The win gave LC its sixth three-set victory in the past seven matches.

The team stayed balanced against McDaniel with every player contributing. Payne had eight kills and eight digs. Senior Molly Deacon led the team with 13 digs. Turk was the only other Hornet with double-figure digs at 10 to go along with 19 assists.

The Hornets collected more kills (44) than McDaniel as the Green Terror had nearly as many attack errors (17) as kills (18). LC also held a 37-18 advantage in assists and a 55-31 advantage in digs.

Kloe Martin had four service aces for the Green Terror (5-14) while Anne McShea added six kills.

The Hornets (15-4) play the City College of New York at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday followed up with another match at 4:00 p.m. against Stevenson.
