Key Hitting, Assists Lead LC to 3-0 Win

GREENSBORO, NC – Lynchburg College did not take long to heat up at Guilford, bringing down the Quakers in three games, 25-19, 25-16, 25-16 on Wednesday night in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.

The Hornets were held in check early in the first game before pulling away to a nice 18-11 lead on back-to-back kills by Brittany Crawford off Rachel Turk assists and an attack error by Guilford.

Following a Guilford timeout, Turk set up two more balls that led to kills, one by Marion Lozano and the other by Aricquel Payne to put the first game away.

Turk continued the great set work in the second game. LC was leading by a mere point at 9-8 when a 10-1 run put the Hornets up 19-9 and well on their way to a 2-0 advantage in the match.

Guilford attempted a comeback in the third game, down 22-16, but a ball handling error by Brooke Herr gave the ball back to LC. Crystal Harrell served back-to-back aces to finish off the Quakers.

Turk had 27 assists and 12 digs for the Hornets. Rebecca Loftis and Lozano each had eight kills. Crawford added seven kills and four aces to go along with the two aces Harrell had to end the match.

Aly Haslam had seven kills for the Quakers (4-10/2-2). Taylor Whitley added 17 assists.

Lynchburg (11-4/4-2) heads to Mary Washington on Saturday, September 29 for a 1 p.m. non-conference match.
