Hornets Take Two, Drop Two in Lexington

LEXINGTON, VA –The Lynchburg College volleyball team dropped its first and last game of the Washington & Lee Tournament to sandwich two victories this weekend in Lexington, VA at the Washington & Lee University Invitational.

The Hornets took their first loss of the year Friday against Marietta, 25-14, 25-22, 25-20 before recovering for a victory over Southern Virginia 25-18, 25-15, 25-21. Sophomore Aricquel Payne led the way against Marietta with seven kills while senior Brooke Moughon had nine assists and senior Rachel Turk had eight. Senior Molly Deacon contributed 20 digs.

In the victory against Southern Virginia, Payne had nine kills for the Hornets to go along with five blocks from Rebecca Loftis, and 18 assists from Turk. Deacon and Payne had 12 digs a piece.

The first match of Saturday morning went the Hornets way in straight sets, knocking off North Carolina Wesleyan 25-16, 25-12, 25-21. Payne led the way with 16 digs. Samantha Page and Deacon had 15 digs each to add to the defensive charge. Moughon had 12 assists while Turk contributed 11. Rachel Huffman and Payne had eight kills each and Sierra Strathy had two blocks.

Johns Hopkins ended the Hornet hot streak in three games to finish the tournament for the Hornets, 25-21, 25-11, 25-15. Deacon and Page had nine digs a piece. Turk's 14 assists and Payne's nine kills highlighted LC's efforts.
