Payne Named ODAC Rookie of the Year, Three Hornets Garner All-ODAC Nods
FOREST, VA – Freshman Aricquel Payne was named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Rookie of the Year while two other Lynchburg College volleyball players were named to All-ODAC Teams as announced by the conference on Monday.
Payne, who also earned a spot on the All-ODAC First Team, played in 29 matches this season blasted 267 kills. She averaged 2.59 kills per set, with a hitting percentage of .220. The Woodbrige, Virginia native registered double-digit kills in nine different matches over the season, which included a 21-kill performance against the University of Mary Washington. Payne also tallied double-digit digs in 11 different matches.
Senior Rachel Huffman earned All-ODAC Second Team honors for the second consecutive season. In 31 matches, she amassed 208 kills, averaging 1.87 kills per set. She ranked fifth in the ODAC in total blocks with 78. Huffman had 16 solo blocks and had six matches in which she had double-figure kills.
Junior Rebecca Loftis was named to the All-ODAC Third Team. Over the course of the season, Loftis hit 237 kills, averaging 2.17 kills per set and had a hitting percentage of .257. She also tallied 20 solo blocks and assisted on 52.
Lynchburg finished with a 21-10 record and a 7-3 mark in the ODAC.
