LC Women's Track Finish Third at ODAC Indoor Championships
LYNCHBURG, VA – With the winter season ending, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) hosted its Indoor Track and Field Championships at Liberty University on Friday, and the Lynchburg College women's team came up just short of the title, finishing in third place. Roanoke College won the championship and Washington and Lee University was the runner-up.
Kori Penick continued her strong indoor season, winning the shot put competition. Her distance of 42'9" was not only another personal best in the event, but once again set the school record, breaking a record she set last week. The throw also puts her at 29th in the nation. Ashley Thomas and Kim Alfaro also earned medals for throwers, as they won a silver and a bronze in the weight throw respectively.
Aleshia Washington had another successful ODAC meet, setting a PR in the 60 meter dash. Her second-place finish in 7.97 gave the Hornets eight points in the event. Washington earned points in several other events at the meet showing her diversity, with the next best finish being bronze in the 200, with a time of 26.75.
Ashley Saba also set a personal best in the mile competition at the meet. She finished in a time of 5:16, which earned the Hornets six points for the bronze medal. Saba continued her solid meet in the 3000 meter run, earning silver at a time of 10:46.86.
