Hornets Take Part in Final Qualifier

EWING, NJ – With the spring season, three members of the Lynchburg College men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Lion's Last Chance qualifier, hosted by The College of New Jersey, in an effort to qualify for the National Championships.

Christina Washington competed in the 400 meter dash and ran the race in a time of 58.60, which is a very respectable time.  Leah Heal continued her successful season in the javelin with a throw of 124'5", which is the fifth best mark in program history.

Rachad Davis ran for the men in the 400 meter hurdles.  He finished in an impressive time of 53.80.

At this point in the season, both teams have several people ranked in the top 40 of the national rankings.  Christina Washington and Aleshia Washington are in the top 35 in the 400 meter and 100 meter dash respectively.  Davis ranks 31st in the 110 meter hurdles and 19th in the 400 meter hurdles.  Jared Bloomquist is in the top 30 for the high jump and Heal is currently in the top 40 in the javelin.  James Bell currently has the highest position of any LC athlete, ranking fifth in the nation in the decathlon.

The qualifiers for the national meet will be announced this Sunday with the Division III Championships beginning the following Thursday at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
