Outdoor Track and Field Finish Up at W&L – VMI Track Carnival
LEXINGTON, VA – The Lynchburg College men's and women's track and field teams competed on the second day of the W&L – VMI Track Carnival on Saturday. LC finished strong during the part of the meet that took place at VMI.
The men were led by Rachad Davis who finished second in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.32 seconds. He also had a solid showing in the 100 meter sprint, finishing fourth in a time of 11.41 seconds, and he added to his stellar day with a career best in the 200 meter with a time of 22.98. Freshman Jared Bloomquist finished second in the high jump, behind only a competitor from a Division I school. The ODAC indoor high jump champion jumped 6'2.75". The 4x800 meter relay team finished third, and first among Division III schools. William Orndorff, Curtis Whitlow, Lawrence Minor, and Reid Taylor combined to run in 8:11.73. In the 400 hurdles, Nathan Curtis and Vinny Mwano had solid times of 60.42 and 60.73, respectively.
For the throwers, Greg Wilson and Eric Van Dunk finished second and third in the shot put. Wilson threw it 47'10.5" and Van Dunk had a distance of 47'9.75".
On the women's side, Kori Penick won another shot put event, with a heave of 37'10". Christina Washington was the top finisher among Division III athletes, and third overall, in the 400 meter race, with a time of 58.53 seconds. Aleshia Washington and Christina Washington also posted impressive times in the 200 meter sprint. They finished in 26.61 and 26.74 seconds, respectively.
The Lynchburg College men's and women's track and field teams will head to Newport News, VA next week as Christopher Newport University hosts the Commonwealth Duals.
