#11 Hornets Score Early to Beat Bridgewater 1-0
LYNCHBURG, VA – The 11th-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team got a goal early in the first half, then made it last the duration for a 1-0 victory over Bridgewater College Saturday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.
Lynchburg was driving early in the first half when Kelley Smith corralled a pass outside the box at 6:12. Smith turned, squared up, and sent a shot high towards the goal. Eagle keeper Taylor Riley got a hand on the ball, but could not prevent it from going in.
LC continued to pressure early in the second half, getting several attempts off a Jenn Snyder corner kick. Rachel Sadowski found enough space for a shot, but Elizabeth Stump sagged back into the net for a save from her defensive position.
Lynchburg outshot the Eagles 21-2. The Hornets also maintained a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks, with all nine coming in the second half.
Riley made seven saves for Bridgewater (7-6/4-3).
Lynchburg (13-1/7-0) travels to Hollins University (3-7/2-4) Tuesday for a 4 p.m. start.
