Hornets Fly to Victory; Defeat Yellow Jackets 5-0
ASHLAND, VA – The Lynchburg College women's soccer team played strong in their first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) appearance of the year, defeating Randolph-Macon College 5-0.
The Hornet women came out of the gate on fire. Freshman Marina Clark cashed in both of her goals for the Hornets in the first half, including a shot from 25 yards out off of an assist by sophomore Jade Woll. Sophomore Morgan Singer also got in the action, scoring an unassisted goal at 34:20 and helping assist Clark's second goal along with senior Anne Neville Broaddus. LC went into halftime with a 3-0 lead and never looked back.
The Hornets slowed the pace in the second half, but it did not stop them from scoring two more goals. Freshman Samantha Bagherpour nailed a shot from 30 yards out from an assist by freshman Kelley Smith at 72:44 and Victoria Czenczek scored a goal at 85:28 off of an assist by freshman Elizabeth Oden.
Senior Karsen Schottleutner played 75:30 in goal for the Hornets, allowing no goals and saving one ball. Freshman Brooke Thompson finished the game in the net for LC and picked up a save. Elizabeth Blanco recorded 10 saves at goalie for the Yellow Jackets.
The Hornet women (6-1/1-0 ODAC) will compete at home on Friday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m. for Parent's Weekend against ODAC opponent Roanoke College.
