#4 Women's Soccer Drops Sunday Matinee 3-1 at #12 Emory

ATLANTA, GA – The #4 Lynchburg College women's soccer team ended the shutout in the second half, but could not complete the comeback, falling to #12 Emory University 3-1 in non-conference action Sunday.

Emory got on the board early in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead six minutes in on a goal by Veronica Romero. Lynchburg keeper Karsen Schottleutner did a good job deflecting Romero's first attempt, but the Eagle recovered and scored off the rebound.

Schottleutner made two more saves as Emory kept the pressure coming before surrendering a second goal off the foot of Kelly Costopoulos at 17:01. Romero sent the cross into the box to set up Costopoulos.

The Hornets had several opportunities in the second half, but Liz Arnold and the rest of the Eagle stepped up to hold onto the 2-0 lead.

Dessi Dupuy managed to get Lynchburg on the board, heading in a ball off a Jessie Gonzalez assist at 69:54, but Emory would immediately respond to keep it at a two-goal advantage as Costopoulos netted her second tally of the day.

Lauren Drosick added an assist for Emory (3-2-1) while Arnold added three saves in net.

Schottleutner finished with six saves for the Hornets.

Lynchburg (5-1/0-0 ODAC) travels to Randolph-Macon College (3-2/1-0 ODAC) for a 4:15 p.m. start Wednesday in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match.
