Rachel Sadowski Named Academic All-American

TOWSON, MD – The post-season awards keep piling up for Lynchburg College junior defender Rachel Sadowski. She was recently named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division III Women's Soccer second-team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

She was eligible for CoSIDA A-A honors after earning Academic All-District 5 honors in early November. An environmental science major, she has a cumulative GPA of 3.96.

Sadowski was named a first-team All-American just yesterday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), the sixth-straight season the program has had an All-American performer on the playing field.

A first-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) and All-South Atlantic Region honoree this fall, Sadowski anchored one of the strongest defenses in the nation. The Hornets ranked ninth in the country in goals-against average (0.423) and fourth in shutout percentage (0.72). The last line of Hornet defense as the center back, she stymied many offensive opportunities from opponents.

Sadowski also scored five times on the offensive end, two of which were game winners.

Lynchburg finished the 2012 season 21-1-3, won the program's third-straight ODAC title, and ranked #11 in the final NSCAA Top 25 poll of the year.
