LC Women's Soccer Set to Take the Pitch at NCAA Division III Regionals

LYNCHBURG, VA – The LC women's soccer is set to head off to Grantham, Pennsylvania and the campus of Messiah College for the NCAA Division III women's soccer Regionals following victories over Frostburg State and Montclair State this past weekend.

Lynchburg is scheduled to play Johns Hopkins Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. Messiah will play Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the early game at 5 p.m.

Lynchburg is one of sixteen teams remaining in the tournament, playing in the Messiah Regional. There are three other regionals scheduled for the weekend, with the winners advancing to the national semifinals to be held in San Antonio, Texas at the end of the month.

The Hornets (21-0-3) were led in the first two rounds by great defensive play from junior Rachel Sadowski and senior Nikki Rhodes. The defensive duo helped LC, along with freshman Mary Beier and senior keeper Audrey Moore, collect shutouts 17 and 18 on the year.

The strong play by the Hornets has helped the team reach some rare air. This team is currently tied for the school record for wins in a season with Dr. Todd Olsen's 2004 and 2008 teams.

LC will take on a Johns Hopkins team in the round of 16 that will look to keep LC from collecting shutout number 19. The Blue Jays (17-4-1) have scored goals in their last five matches, including wins in the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Tournament by a combined score of 9-2.

Messiah (20-1-1) enters the regional having not lost a game since September 1, the second game of the season.  The Eagles will play the Engineers of MIT (14-3-3). The Engineers squeaked through the first two rounds to reach this point, winning on penalty kicks and in double overtime in subsequent rounds while netting one goal in 200 minutes of play.

For those who can't make it to Grantham, the homepage for the Regional is located here.

There will also be live stats and video for both games Saturday as well as Sunday's Regional final that will determine a trip to the Final Four.
