LC Women's Soccer Hosts NCAA Regional Pod, First Two Rounds in Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, VA –The NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Championship Tournament bracket was announced on Monday and Lynchburg College will be hosting a regional pod, meaning that the first two rounds of the LC regional will be played in front of the home faithful on Shellenberger Field.

Lynchburg (19-0-3) enters the tournament after defeating Bridgewater 2-0 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship game Sunday. It is the third-straight ODAC title for the Hornets and fifth in six years. LC has made the tournament in each of the past six seasons.

The Hornets will play Frostburg State in the first round. The Bobcats (14-3-2) enter as Capital Athletic Conference champions after advancing past Salisbury on penalty kicks. Frostburg is riding a seven-game unbeaten streak.

The other first round matchup features Montclair State and Averett University.

Montclair State (15-1-3) is the New Jersey Athletic Conference champion after advancing through both rounds on penalty kicks. The Red Hawks only loss came to Rowan University, which also made the tournament field.

Averett (17-3) is a familiar opponent to LC as the Hornets defeated the Cougars 3-0 on September 9 as part of the Shellenberger Classic. That loss dropped Averett to 1-3. They have not lost since, winning 16 straight matches including a 3-2 overtime victory against Christopher Newport to win the USA South title Sunday.

Both games will be held on Saturday. The winners of the first round matchups will face each other on Sunday. Montclair St. and Averett with play at 5 p.m. while Lynchburg takes on Frostburg St. at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students, and $2 for senior citizens and children 12 and under. Lynchburg students get in free with a valid student ID.
