Hall of Fame Spotlight - Kristen Kowit '01

As Alumni Weekend approaches, the Lynchburg College athletic department is profiling the teams and players selected to this year's Hall of Fame Class.  The fourth honoree to be profiled is former women's soccer midfielder Kristen Kowit Solmose '01.

Kristen graduated from Lynchburg College in 2001 with a degree in health promotion. She played Women's Soccer from 1997-2000 and during her time, she helped lead the team to their first ever ODAC Championship and their first ever appearance in the NCAA Women's Soccer Championships.

Kristen was a four-time First-Team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference honoree, a two-time ODAC and State Player of the Year (1999, 2000), and was a two-time All-American.  The women's soccer team at LC appeared in the NCAA Tournament every year that Kristen played.

We asked Kristen a couple of questions and here is what he had to say:

How does it feel to be honored with induction into the Lynchburg College Hall of Fame?

It is such an amazing recognition and it speaks volumes for what Coach Todd Olsen and Coach Rob Travis and all of my teammates accomplished by laying the foundation for an amazing program.

How does it feel to be recognized in front of your classmates?

LC is a special place and regardless of the reason it's always fun to see old faces and catch up with friends

What was it like to be part of the early rise of the women's soccer program at LC?

It means more now 10 years removed from the program. At the time it was just fun being around friends and playing the game we loved. There's something to be said for naivety. We didn't know our opponents and we were new to the rivalries, we just wanted to win! Looking back it is special to know that we were an integral part in building such a strong tradition of excellence.

What was your favorite memory at Lynchburg?

Besides meeting my husband, it's hard to pick one memory, but a couple that stand out are the ODAC Finals my freshman year in three inches of mud, hiking with the team and van wars.

How has LC soccer and LC as a whole helped you throughout your Life?

It taught me how special it was to be a part of a team. I played soccer since I was in middle school but it wasn't until I started playing at LC that I learned to appreciate the game, the meaning of hard work and what it takes to be part of a successful team. My coaches taught me that I can be a better player and a better person than I thought I could be. I learned that it's important to believe in yourself because others will believe in you and feed off of your confidence. LC taught me to step out of my comfort zone and take chances, to get involved and to help make a change and a difference in my experience as well as my peers.
