Dessi Dupuy Nets Four Second-Half Goals
LYNCHBURG, VA – Sophomore forward Dessi Dupuy broke open a close game with four second-half goals to lead the ninth-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Randolph-Macon College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup Wednesday afternoon.
LC notched a goal 13:20 into the game on a free kick. Senior Kristen Melchiori tapped the ball to fellow senior Nikki Rhodes who blasted a 20-yard kick into the left corner of the net. The Hornets held advantages of 18-0 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks but couldn't capitalize again in the first half.
Dupuy struck less than three minutes after intermission, scoring an unassisted goal at the 47:29 mark. She gave LC a three-goal advantage 14 minutes later on a feed from sophomore Kara Schaffer and earned the hat trick at 71:24 on a pass from Mary Beier. Dupuy took a pass from Melchiori a minute later and dribbled around the keeper for her fourth tally on the day.
Lynchburg out-shot its guests 39-3 for the game and held an edge of 10-1 in corner kicks.
Randolph-Macon falls to 7-5 and 6-2 in conference play. Briana Housekeeper made 12 saves in net.
The Hornets (12-0-2/6-0-2 ODAC) travel to Roanoke College for another important ODAC game Friday night at 7 p.m.
