LC Women's Soccer Defeats Guilford 5-0

GREENSBORO, NC – The ninth-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team captured an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory Wednesday evening at Guilford College, 5-0.

The game was scoreless for 43 minutes until the Hornet offense struck. Senior Kristen Melchiori scored on a deflection in the box at 43:08. Junior Grace Withers was credited with an assist on the play and Lynchburg held the 1-0 lead at halftime.

Sophomore Kathleen Szafranski added an unassisted goal immediately after intermission, collecting a loose ball in the box and finding the back of the net. Sophomore Kara Schaffer scored off a corner kick at the 62:32 mark, and three minutes later Schaffer fed freshman Morgan Singer with a crossing pass to make the score 4-0. Freshman Nicole Kopsidas added an insurance goal with 10 minutes left.

Senior Audrey Moore made one save in 75 minutes in the Hornet net. Cori Karoly made seven stops for Guilford (3-8/2-2 ODAC).

LC outshot the Quakers 23-2 and held a 10-3 edge in corner kicks.

The Hornets (9-0-1/3-0-1) host Washington & Lee University Sunday at 1 p.m. in another ODAC matchup.
