Shelley Hoath Assists on All Three Goals as Hornets Defeat Averett 3-0

LYNCHBURG, VA – Lynchburg College senior midfielder Shelley Hoath assisted on all three goals Sunday afternoon as the 11th-ranked Lynchburg College women's soccer team defeated Averett University 3-0 in the final game of the 2012 Shellenberger Classic.

Hoath eluded several Cougar defenders and fed junior Angela Bosco for the game's first goal 16 minutes in. Senior midfielder Jessica Gonzalez was the recipient of a Hoath feed at the 33:21 mark and LC went into halftime ahead 2-0. Bosco and Hoath connected again for the game's final tally with 20 minutes remaining on the game clock.

Averett had a golden scoring opportunity in the early minutes, but Hornet junior defender Tori Dott recovered to kick the ball to safety.

LC out-shot the Cougars 23-4 and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Malin Borjesson made nine saves in net for Averett (1-3).

The Hornets (4-0) open their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) with a tough test Wednesday at Virginia Wesleyan College. LC and VWC were picked to finish first and second, respectively in a pre-season poll of the league's coaches.
