Singer, Hornets Win in Comeback Fashion

LYNCHBURG, VAMorgan Singer scored two goals in the last eight minutes, as the No. 11 Lynchburg College women's soccer team came from behind to defeat Kenyon College in the first game of the Shellenberger Classic on Saturday.

Lynchburg's Dessi Dupuy opened her scoring account for the 2012 season with an unassisted tally at 22:05.  LC controlled most of the first half, outshooting the Ladies 12 -1 and having an advantage in corner kicks 5-2.  Kenyon goalkeeper Lauren Wolfe made four saves in the first stanza to keep the Hornets half-time lead at 1-0.

The action picked up in the second half, with Kenyon getting the first opportunity in the 58th minute.  After a Hornet foul just outside of the goalie box, Kenyon midfielder Courtney Hague placed the free kick in the back of the net.  Ten minutes later, Becca Romaine would give the Ladies the lead.  With the ball bouncing around the Lynchburg goal, Romaine tapped it in to give Kenyon a 2-1 advantage.

It was in the last ten minutes that the Hornet pressure finally wore down the Kenyon defense.  LC earned a corner kick in the 82nd minute and Jessica Gonzalez sent the service directly at Angela Bosco.  Bosco headed the ball towards Singer, who then in turn headed in her first of the day.

Lynchburg continued to push forward in the waning minutes.  A perfectly placed cross went to Kristen Melchiori, who then headed it to Singer.  Singer scored her second on a low shot at 88:57 to give the Hornets the lead.

Wolfe made eight saves for the Ladies (1-2 overall).

Lynchburg (3-0) will take on Averett University on Sunday.  The final game of the women's soccer Shellenberger Classic will start at 1:30 p.m.
