Hornets Use Strong First Half to Down Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, VA – The first half said it all for the #11 Lynchburg College women's soccer team as the Hornets did all their scoring in the first half in a 4-0 road victory over Southern Virginia on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Shelley Hoath netted her first goal of the season 11 minutes into the action to begin the Lynchburg assault. Another senior, Jessica Gonzalez, collected two goals for the second consecutive game, extending the Hornet lead to 3-0. The captain's second goal came from the right side of the box on a great feed from Hoath. Sophomore Dana Nelsen rounded out the scoring for Lynchburg with her first goal of the season with two minutes to go in the half on an assist from freshman Morgan Singer.

The Hornets outshot the Knights 32-0 with 15 of those shots on goal. Gonzalez and freshman Jade Woll had five shots a piece. LC also led the way in corner kicks with a 7-0 advantage.

Makenzie Lundquist made 11 saves for Southern Virginia.

Lynchburg (2-0) returns home to face Kenyon in the Shellenberger Classic Saturday, September 8 at 11 a.m.
