Quakers Defeat LC Women 16-15
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Guilford College women's lacrosse team rallied a three-goal second-half deficit Wednesday to defeat Lynchburg College 16-15 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.
LC led 11-8 at halftime, and still had a three-goal lead with 20 minutes remaining after a score from Bri Slate made the score 14-11. The Quakers would rattle off the next four goals to pull ahead 15-14 with 3:40 on the game clock. LC senior Caroline Kilby evened the score with 2:13 remaining and the game was knotted until the closing seconds. E'leyna Garcia netted the game-winner on a feed from Lily Colley with just 21 seconds left to give Guilford a one-goal lead. LC had a chance to force overtime but a shot went wide as time expired.
Kilby posted five goals and four assists to lead the Hornets. Slate also had five goals, and Katherine Francis had two goals and one assist. Kira Castle had two scores and Caroline Carozza posted one. Ryland Scott and Brianna LaMarca each caused three turnovers.
Lily Colley had five goals and two assists for Guilford (10-5/8-1 ODAC), and Garcia also had five. Becca Colley tallied four goals and one assist. Hailey Bossert made 13 saves for LC while Sammi Milbourn made 10 stops for the Quakers.
The Hornets (7-8/6-4 ODAC) travel to Greensboro College Saturday for a non-conference game at 1 p.m.
