Hornets Land Six on All-ODAC Women's Lacrosse Team
FOREST, VA – Lynchburg College had six student-athletes named to the 2012 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Women's Lacrosse team Tuesday, including three on the first team.
Senior Lesley Buckingham, junior Julie Will and sophomore Brianna LaMarca all earned spots on the first team. Buckingham, an attack, broke the school career records for points (262) and goals (200) during the year, and also set the single-season top marks in these two categories, with 96 points and 69 goals. She ranked 37th in NCAA Division III with 5.33 points per game.
Will, a midfielder, finished the season with 31 goals, ranking her fourth on the team, and added eight assists. She led LC with 40 ground balls and 49 draw controls and also caused 15 turnovers.
LaMarca helped anchor the LC backline that allowed just over 10 goals a game. She was third on the team with 29 ground balls and tied for the team lead with 23 caused turnovers. LaMarca added seven draw controls.
Junior attack Kendall Adkin was named to the second-team after netting 65 goals, good for second on the team. She assisted on 16 other scores, tying for second on the team. Junior midfielder Sarah Shannon and senior keeper Christina Tran both were named to the third-team squad.
Christina Benedetti from Washington & Lee University was named the ODAC Player of the Year, while Guilford head mentor Matthew Grosso earned Coach of the Year honors. Darragh Evarts from Roanoke College took home rookie of the year accolades and Rachel Johnsen earned the Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.
