Guilford Defeats LC Women 15-10
LYNCHBURG, VA – The Guilford College women's lacrosse team pulled off a minor upset Saturday afternoon with a 15-10 victory over Lynchburg College in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) matchup.
The Quakers scored the first three goals of the contest, two by E'Leyna Garcia. Senior Lesley Buckingham scored for the Hornets, but GC answered with three more unanswered goals to take a 6-1 lead midway into the first half. Sophomore Bri Slate scored off a free position shot at 11:14, but two Guilford tallies pushed the lead to 8-2. Each team found the back of the net once more before halftime.
Lynchburg came out strong after the break, scoring three of the first four goals, two from Buckingham. The Quakers again would answer with back-to-back scores to go ahead 12-6 with 19 minutes left. The Hornets fought back with three of the next four goals to pull within four with 10 to play. After a Quaker tally, Slate scored again to make the advantage 14-10, but the Quakers fought off four-straight LC free-position attempts and netted an insurance goal at 4:13 to end the scoring.
Buckingham finished with five scores and Slate had two goals and two assists. Junior Julie Will had a goal and two assists and junior Kendall Adkin posted a goal and an assist. Junior Carley Dobson also scored for LC.
Summer Frazier had five goals and an assist for Guilford (8-4/5-1 ODAC). Lily Colley had three goals an assist and Garcia also finished with three tallies.
The Hornets (7-5/4-1 ODAC) host Randolph-Macon College Wednesday at 4 p.m. in another ODAC contest.
