Hornets Fall to Adrian in Women's Lacrosse Action

LYNCHBURG, VA – In a game of scoring runs, Adrian College used two of them in the second half to defeat the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team Sunday, in a non-conference match-up.

Adrian opened up the game with a goal from Hannah Early at 27:59.  Four more Bulldogs would score over the next two and a half minutes, including two from Olivia Duncan, to push the lead to 5-0.  However, the Hornets would respond with Bri Slate tallying her first of the day at the 25:16 mark.

Lynchburg would go on to score the next six goals in the half, with two goals scored by Kendall Adkin and two more by Slate.  Julie Will scored a goal with one second left on the clock off a pass from Adkin to give the Hornets a 7-5 lead at the intermission.

The Bulldogs came out in the second half the same way they started the game.  Five different players scored before Adkin answered with her third of the game at 16:54 to cut the Bulldogs lead to 10-8.  Adrian would then use a four-goal run, with three coming from Rachel Johnston.  Will scored her second of the game in man-up situation to stop the run, but two more goals for Adrian pushed the deficit to 16-9.  The Hornets went on to put three more shots past Adrian goalie Laura Finfrock, but time would run out on the comeback attempt.

Draw controls were an important factor in the scoring streaks.  Adrian controlled 18 draws compared to Lynchburg's 11 draw controls, with many of the wins coming during the runs.  Amanda Lambert had a game-high six draw controls and Early added five in the afternoon.

Slate tallied four goals to lead Lynchburg, with Will and Adkin each adding three in the loss.  Freshman Katie Seidel scored one goal and assisted on two others for Lynchburg.

The Bulldogs (8-2 overall) were paced by Johnston, who had a game-high five goals.  Duncan and Meghan Reynolds each added hat-tricks in the game.  Finfrock stopped 10 shots for Adrian in the win.

Lynchburg (6-4) will host another non-conference opponent this Wednesday.  Greensboro College will be visiting Shellenberger Field for a 7 p.m. start time.
