Wittenberg Defeats LC Women 10-8

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Wittenberg University women's lacrosse team outscored Lynchburg College 7-4 in the second half Saturday evening to post a 10-8 non-conference win over the Hornets on Shellenberger Field.

The Hornets scored the game's first two goals, from freshman Katie Seidel and junior Kendall Adkin, and led 4-2 late in the first half. Wittenburg's Logan Warye scored right before intermission to cut LC's lead to just one.

The Tigers netted six of the game's next eight goals, two from Jennifer Close, to take a 9-6 lead with 10 minutes left. Junior Sarah Shannon and senior Lesley Buckingham answered for LC to cut the edge to 9-8, but Francine Murczynski scored an insurance goal and the Tigers kept LC off the scoreboard for the final nine minutes.

Adkin scored a game-high three times and Buckingham added two tallies. Shannon had a goal and an assist and Julie Will also scored for LC.

Katie Bondy made nine saves in net for the Tigers (2-2) and Close caused five turnovers. Freshman Ryland Scott for Lynchburg caused six turnovers and scooped five ground balls.

The Hornets (3-2) travel to Christopher Newport University Wednesday for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
