Lesley Buckingham Scores Six as LC Defeats Berry 17-7

LYNCHBURG, VA – Senior attack Lesley Buckingham scored six times Saturday afternoon as the Lynchburg College women's lacrosse team opened the 2012 season with a 17-7 win over Berry College (GA) in non-conference play.

The Hornets controlled the first half, out-scoring the visiting Vikings 13-0, including four goals each from Buckingham and junior Kendall Adkin. The Berry offense came to life in the second half, netting seven tallies and six of the game's last seven scores.

Buckingham added four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Adkin posted four goals and two assists, while junior Sarah Shannon, sophomore Bri Slate and sophomore Caroline Kilby each had two goals. Julie Will compiled a goal, an assist and three draw controls and sophomore Paige Gadsby had two assists. Senior Christina Tran held the Vikings scoreless in her 30 minutes in net, stopping three shots.

Jenny Miller and Elizabeth Flatt each had three goals for Berry (1-3).

The Hornets face off with Susquehanna University Tuesday at 3 p.m. in a game to be played at Edgewood High School in Maryland.
