Hornet Women's Basketball Ranked 16th on WBCA Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll

ATLANTA, GA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team ranked 16th in NCAA Division III, as the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Honor Roll was released Thursday.

This is the first year that the Hornet program has earned a spot in the top 25, combining for a 3.502 GPA.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes women's basketball teams across the nation in NCAA Divisions I, II and III, the NAIA, and junior/community colleges that carry the highest combined grade point averages (GPAs) inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2012-13 season is the 18th in which the WBCA has produced the honor rolls.

A team's GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of hours attempted by all team members in the academic terms (semesters or quarters) that the season spans. Weighted grades are converted to a 4.0 scale. The GPAs are rounded to the nearest thousandth of a point.

"I could not be more proud of my team for this incredible honor," said LC head coach Abby Pyzik. "To accomplish anything for the first time in program history is always a special feeling.  After coming off one of the most successful seasons in women's basketball history, it is only fitting that this team's hard work has earned this recognition. We not only set high goals on the court, but even higher expectations for excellence in the classroom as we believe in being scholar-athletes first."

The Hornets finished the 2012-13 campaign with an 18-10 record and earned the program's first appearance in the ODAC Tournament semifinals since 1989-90.
