Lynchburg Women Hang tough, falls 61-52 at Guilford

GREENSBORO, NC—The Lynchburg College women's basketball team held tight with Guilford, the top team in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) before ultimately falling, 61-52, on the road.

Guilford got off to a fast 7-0 start on jumpers by Morgan King and Gabby Oglesby and a three-pointer from Kayla Adams before the Hornets started cutting into the deficit. Despite the valiant effort, LC could get no closer than four points until the waning minutes of the first half.

Trailing 24-17 with five minutes remaining in the half, LC went on a 6-0 run to trim to Quaker lead to one point, their smallest lead in the first twenty minutes.

Sophomore Shannon Allan's jumper followed up layups by sophomores Katie Reeves and Lauren Penley to make it a one possession game with 3:29 remaining until halftime. Lynchburg would not score again until two seconds remained when Penley's layup found the bottom of the net to end the half with Guilford leading, 31-25.

The Quakers began to open up the scoring gap in the second half, maintaining a double-digit lead until LC made one last charge, getting it to within four, 56-52, on a Reeves' three-pointer with 26 seconds left.

Lynchburg (12-8/7-5) was led in scoring by Reeves' 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Allan added 12 points while Penley contributed eight to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds.

Guilford (18-3/11-1) was paced by 17 tallies from Jaclyn Nucci. Oglesby and Adams had 12 a piece, while King collected 11 boards.

LC plays Tuesday night at home against Roanoke College (9-12/5-7). Opening tip in this ODAC matchup is set for 7 p.m.
