Defense Propels Hornet Women to 60-41 win over Randolph

LYNCHBURG, VA – Fueled by a strong defensive effort, the Lynchburg College women's basketball team posted a 60-41 victory over visiting Randolph College Wednesday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) game.

The Hornets scored the first seven points of the contest and took three minutes for the WildCats to get on the scoreboard. LC led 14-7 at the 8:38 mark, and a 13-0 run over the next six minutes gave Lynchburg a 20-point lead. Randolph scored the final seven points of the first half to cut LC's lead to 27-14 at intermission. The LC defense forced Randolph into 17 percent shooting (4-24) in the first half.

Randolph got to within nine points midway through the second half but could get no closer.

Sophomore forward Shannon Allan scored a game-high 20 points for LC, including 15 in the second half, and added five rebounds. Sophomore forward Lauren Penley had nine points and 10 rebounds, while freshman forward Chaney Forbush added nine points and six rebounds. Freshman guard Sammi Goldsmith tallied nine points with four assists.

Chelsea Tyler had 10 points and five caroms for Randolph (3-16/1-10 ODAC) and Emilee Dunton added nine points. The teams combined for 47 turnovers.

The Hornets (12-7/7-4 ODAC) travel to Guilford College Saturday for an ODAC game at 4 p.m.
