Hornet Women Defeat Roanoke 68-55
SALEM, VA – A big second half led the Lynchburg College women's basketball team to a 68-55 victory at Roanoke College Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The score was tied at 35 after one stanza of play, as sophomore forward Shannon Allan had 12 points and four rebounds for LC. A 21-6 run to start the second half, behind seven points from sophomore guard Katie Reeves, put the Hornets ahead 56-41 with 11:19 on the game clock. The Maroons could not cut the Lynchburg lead to under double figures the rest of the way.
Allan finished with a game-high 21 points, nailing all three of her three-point attempts. She added six rebounds and three blocked shots. Reeves hit 4-of-7 three-pointers en route to 18 points and four rebounds, and freshman guard Sammi Goldsmith finished with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Lauren Penley contributed seven points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Paxton Gwin paced Roanoke (5-9/1-4) with 18 points, six caroms and two blocks. Tatum McKee had 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Lynchburg finished eight of 17 (47%) from three-point land.
The Hornets (9-4/4-1 ODAC) host Eastern Mennonite University Saturday at 2 p.m. in more ODAC action.
