Allan Scores 32 but Dickinson Defeats LC Women 78-74 in OT

CARLISLE, PA – Sophomore Shannon Allan connected for a career-high 32 points Sunday but Dickinson College outlasted the Lynchburg College women's basketball team 78-74 in overtime in the championship game of the Dickinson Tip-Off Tournament.

The Hornets trailed 30-23 at halftime but fought back to tie the game at 46 all with 7:32 on the game clock. Following three other ties, the Red Devils opened a four-point lead with just 16 seconds left. Allan was fouled shooting a three-pointer and sank all three free throws to cut the lead to one. Dickinson converted one of two free throws after a Hornet foul, and Allan hit a jumper at the buzzer to force overtime.

Dickinson opened a seven-point edge in the extra session with 28 seconds left but LC wouldn't give up. Allan scored on a layup and after a Dickinson free-throw, freshman Sammi Goldsmith buried a three-pointer and drew a foul. She converted the free throw for a four-point play to cut the edge to 76-74 with seven seconds left, but Dickinson's Lindsay Finnerty iced the game with two free throws.

Allan hit 13-of-21 shots from the field, and filled the stat sheet with 11 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot. Goldsmith scored 21 points and sank seven of her 11 shots, including both three pointers. Sophomore Katie Reeves had six points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Bridget Borgese scored a team-high 22 points for Dickinson (3-0), and also had seven rebounds and six assists. Dana Walsh and Finnerty each scored 14 points and five Red Devils reached double figures. Dickinson forced 30 LC turnovers.

Allan and Goldsmith were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Hornets (1-1) host Methodist University Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in a non-conference game.
