Hornet Women Cruise to Season-Opening Victory 92-29 over Penn-State Berks
CARLISLE, PA – The Lynchburg College women's basketball team opened its 2012-13 season with a 92-29 victory over Penn-State Berks in the first day of play at the Dickinson University Tip-Off Tournament. All 12 Hornets got on the scoreboard and each played at least 13 minutes in the win.
The Hornets shot 61 percent in the first half en route to a 52-21 lead at intermission. Sophomore Lauren Penley made all five of her shots for 10 first-half points.
It was much the same in the second half, with the LC defense locking down the Nittany Lions, allowing just eight points in the final 20 minutes.
Sophomore Shannon Allan scored a game-high 15 points, sinking seven of her 12 shots. Penley finished with 14 points (7-8 from the floor), while freshman Katie Ruth scored 11 and senior Shea Kelley and freshman Chaney Forbush each had nine. Freshman Sarah Coon delivered six points and a game-high seven rebounds and fellow freshman Sammi Goldsmith tallied game highs of five assists and three steals.
Sherrie Satchel had 10 points and three blocks for Penn-State Berks. LC forced 27 turnovers and out-rebounded the Nittany Lions 45-18.
Lynchburg (1-0) will face Dickinson Sunday in the championship game.
