Softball Suffers 2-0 Defeat to Piedmont in Atlanta Regional

ATLANTA, GA – The Lynchburg College softball team saw its season end Saturday evening with a 2-0 defeat to Piedmont College in the Atlanta Regional of the NCAA tournament. The Lions were responsible for both Hornet losses in the tournament.

Lynchburg, coming off a huge win against Agnes Scott College earlier in the day, had the pitching working incredibly well against the Lions. Piedmont, who posted 13 runs in a victory over region host Emory University, was held to just two early runs.

The big hit hurt the Hornets in the second inning as the Lions got on the board first when Abby Smith homered over the left field wall.

Piedmont scored another in the third as Whitney Wolfe doubled to left and later came around to score.

Olivia Duncan was 2-for-3 for Piedmont while Jordin Ellingson went the distance in the circle, striking out three.

Amber Ingram went four one-hit innings for Lynchburg with a strikeout and no walks. Hope Johnson got the start in the circle for the Hornets and threw three innings.

Lynchburg ends its season with a record of 31-16 after its second-straight appearance in the NCAA tournament.
