RMC Eliminates LC 4-2 from ODAC Tourney

SALEM, VA - Randolph-Macon College defeated Lynchburg College 4-2 Saturday evening in the 2014 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament, eliminating the Hornets after splitting four contests. All games in the eight-team, double-elimination bracket were hosted by the James I Moyer Sports Complex. 

Randolph-Macon used three-straight hits to score three runs in the second inning and take a 3-0 lead. The Hornets cut into the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Nicole Shipp and Jessi Hall got the inning started with singles, and Nicole Riley moved the runners to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. Melanie Tenney grounded out to score Shipp and Danielle Powell singled to send Hall home. The Yellow Jackets scored an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI single from Madison Gillman.

Kelsey McLaughlin picked up the complete-game win for R-MC, allowing just six hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Jenna Best and Katie Lockett each had two hits for the Yellow Jackets and had a double and an RBI a piece. 

Hall had two hits for LC, and Elizabeth Fioretti kept her team in the game with 4.2 innings of solid relief, scattering three hits and one walk while allowing one earned run.  

The Hornets hold a 30-14 record and await the possibility of an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
