Hornets Roll 24-0 and 7-0 at Sweet Briar
SWEET BRIAR, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team extended its winning streak to nine games Thursday afternoon with a 24-0 (5 innings), 7-0 doubleheader sweep at Sweet Briar College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
The Hornets jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the opener after plating 10 runs in the second inning. LC ripped 24 hits, and 13 different players recorded a base hit. Jessi Hall, Nicole Riley and Kayla St. John each had three hits each, and St. John belted a trio of doubles, scored three times and drove in four runs. Riley had two doubles, a triple and three RBI. Nicole Shipp was 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, and Amber Ingram, Skylar Seals and Lauren smith each had two hits.
LC had a big first inning in the nightcap, pushing five runs across and breezed to victory. Maddox threw five innings of almost flawless relief to post the victory, allowing just one single while striking out five Vixens. Ingram blasted a three-run home run and Danielle Powell had two hits, including a two-bagger. Logan Walker also doubled for LC.
The Hornets clinched the #2 seed in the upcoming ODAC Championship Tournament with the doubleheader sweep. LC completes the 2014 regular season with a trip Saturday to Ferrum College for a non-conference twinbill starting at 2 p.m.
