LC Softball Splits with #18 CNU

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader Friday against #18 Christopher Newport University, dropping the first game 9-2 and winning the second contest 4-1.

CNU loaded the bases in the top of the second inning of the opener and scored four runs in the frame, two on a double from Candice Zollars. LC manufactured two runs in the fifth, the first after Amber Ingram singled, stole second and crossed home plate on a single by Jessi Hall. Hall stole second base and scored on a Melanie Tenney single. CNU added two insurance runs in the sixth.

Krista Lewis worked five innings for the Captains for the win, allowing six hits and a walk. Hall had two hits for LC and two stolen bases. Kristina McLaughlin and Sabrina Hill each had two hits for CNU.

The Hornets scored two runs each in the first and second frames of the nightcap. Ingram hit a two-run shot in the first, and Lynchburg was aided by a Captain error in the second. Ingram was the story of the second game, also throwing a complete game in the circle, scattering six hits and three walks with nine strikeouts to improve to 7-1 on the year. St. John had two hits for the Hornets, while Zollars had two hits for CNU (16-4).

The Hornets (13-5) are back in action on Sunday, hosting Eastern Mennonite University at 1:30 p.m. for a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference games.
