Melanie Tenney and Kim Alfaro Named ODAC Athletes of the Week

FOREST, VA - Lynchburg College claimed a pair of Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Athletes of the Week Monday; Melanie Tenney for softball and Kim Alfaro for women's indoor track and field.

Tenney, a senior second baseman, has helped the Hornet softball team start off with a 3-1 record. She hit .500 in the four games, scoring six times with three doubles, a home run and seven RBI. The Hornets scored 27 runs last week and she was responsible for almost half. Tenney boasted a slugging percentage of .929 and handled all 19 of her opportunities in the field without an error.

The LC softball team hosts Greensboro College Sunday at 1 p.m. in a non-conference twin bill.

Alfaro was a part of an impressive team effort Saturday at the LC Sprints, Jumps and Throws Challenge in Wake Field House. The Hornets took three of the top four spots in the shot put and all four in the weight throw. Alfaro won both events, with a personal best of 49'11.25" in the weight throw and also had a heave of 38-9  in the shot put. She ranks first in the conference in both events.

Lynchburg will compete this Sunday in the ODAC Indoor Championships, hosted by Hampton University.
