Q and A with Hornet of the Week Skylar Seals

The Lynchburg College athletic department each week showcases a question and answer feature with our Hornet of the Week. The 25th student-athlete selected this year is softball junior Skylar Seals.

Seals picked up where she left off after missing last season due to injury. The junior went 4-for-5 against Averett University, including a grand slam in her first at bat of the season Thursday before driving in another run in the Hornets' doubleheader sweep of Methodist University on Sunday. She is currently batting .545 with a homer and six RBI.

What enabled you to have such a successful first four games?

Having to redshirt my sophomore year due to ACL reconstruction really made me realize that you never know when it could be the last time you step on the field so play every game like it's your last. The encouragement and support from my family, teammates and coaches have played a huge roll in preparing me to step back on the field along with my desire to play the game.

What is it like to step in the box when you are hitting so well?

It's all about confidence and your approach going to the plate. Whether I am hitting well or not, I still have a plan when I go to the plate. Keep it simple is best; see the ball, hit the ball. My ultimate goal is to always do my best for my team.

What is your favorite thing about Lynchburg softball?

My favorite thing about Lynchburg softball is the family bond. My teammates and coaches are my second family. On and off the field I know they are always there no matter what.

What do you like most about Lynchburg College?

I love the small campus atmosphere at Lynchburg College. I feel as though we all support each other in all of the organizations and activities around campus. We are all here to represent Lynchburg College.

What does it mean to be a student-athlete and how has Lynchburg helped you out?

Being a student athlete means representing your school on the field as well as in the classroom. Lynchburg has helped me by making it possible to receive a great education while being able to play the sport that I love.
