Hornet Softball Blasts Five Home Runs in Doubleheader Sweep of E&H

EMORY, VA – The 16th-ranked Lynchburg College softball team drilled five home runs Saturday to power its way to a doubleheader sweep at Emory & Henry College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

Senior Cassie Phillips and sophomore Kacey Clary each walloped a pair of long balls in the first game to lead LC to an 8-5 win in game one. The Hornets led 6-2 after five innings, but the Wasps scored three in the bottom of the sixth to climb within one run. Phillips hit a two-run blast in the top of the seventh to provide a three-run cushion. Clary finished 4-4 in game one, while Jessi Hall and Nicole Riley each had two hits. Taylor Doss had a three-run homer for E&H and Martha Fluharthy had two hits.

Hope Johnson earned the win, working all seven frames to run her record to 15-2 on the season.

LC won the second game 5-0 thanks to a dominating performance from sophomore Amber Ingram. Ingram threw a complete-game two-hitter in the circle, walking three with five strikeouts. She went 2-4 at the plate, blasting a solo home run and slapping a two-run single to drive in three of LC's five runs. Riley went 3-4 in the game, and Nicole Shipp also had two hits. Cortney Halsey doubled and walked for E&H (11-25/3-15 ODAC).

The Hornets (30-7/13-3) close out the regular season Sunday by traveling to Eastern Mennonite University for an ODAC twin bill at 2 p.m.
