Amber Ingram Falls One Out Short of a No-Hitter
SALISBURY, MD – The Lynchburg College softball team swept two games Friday at the Salisbury University Sea Gull Classic, and sophomore right-hander Amber Ingram was just one out short of a no-hitter in the second contest.
Ingram threw a complete-game one-hitter against Frostburg State University in the second game of the day, allowing a single with two outs in the top of the seventh on a swinging bunt that rolled a few feet in front of the catcher. She struck out 11 Bobcat batters and walked only two in LC's 3-0 win.
Sophomore Jessi Hall led off the game with a triple and scored on a single from freshman shortstop Nicole Riley. Sophomore Kacey Clary doubled in the second and scored on a Hall single to make the score 2-0 Lynchburg. Freshman Kelsey Meador doubled in the sixth and Clary drove the runner in to complete the scoring.
Hall was 2-3 with a stolen base and Clary was 2-2. Mary Ann Moore allowed seven hits, three walks and three earned runs in a complete-game effort for Frostburg State (3-2).
Lynchburg defeated Allegheny University (PA) in the opener, 13-1 in five innings. LC scored five runs in the opening frame, with Riley hitting a ground-rule double to score two runs. The Hornets added two more in the second and capped their scoring with six in the fourth.
Sophomore Hope Johnson threw 4.1 innings of two-hit ball, allowing no earned runs while striking out eight. Ingram was 2-3 with two runs scored while freshman Danielle Powell was 2-4 with a double and two RBI. Hall reached base three times, scored twice and drove in three.
