LC Softball Drops Two at VWC Beach Blast

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA –The Lynchburg College softball team started play Friday at the two-day Virginia Wesleyan College Beach Blast, played at Princess Anne Athletic Complex.

York College (PA) defeated LC 6-2 in the opener. Each team scored one run in the first inning, but the Spartans plated one in the third and two each in the fourth and fifth innings to put the game out of reach.

Jessi Hall drilled a pair of solo home runs for the Hornets, hitting one in the first and one in the sixth. Amber Ingram, Cassie Phillips and Amanda Parker each had singles for LC. Cara Rubinaccio went 4-5 for York (2-3) and Erin O'Leary was 3-4 with two runs scored.

Rowan University (NJ) defeated Lynchburg 8-0 in five innings in the second game. Amber Sulter and Sarah Smith had the only hits for LC, as the Profs' Jamie Minix worked all five frames, allowing five base-runners while striking out five. Lindsey Sampolski hit a three-run home run for Rowan (2-0).

The Hornets are scheduled to face Frostburg State (10 a.m.) and Rutgers-Newark (noon) on  Saturday at the Beach Blast.
