Hornet Softball Drops Two at Emory

EMORY, VA – The Lynchburg College softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday at the Emory University Classic Tournament.

Emory (9-1), ranked seventh in the nation, defeated LC 9-1 in the opener in five innings. The Eagles scored three runs each in the first, third and fifth innings. Jessica Boni was 3-3 with two runs, while Micah Scharff was 2-3 with three runs and two RBI. Jessi Hall was 2-3 for the Hornets and scored a run.

Millsaps College (MS) defeated Lynchburg 3-2 in the second game of the day. Sophomore Cassie Phillips hit a solo home run in the second inning, but the Majors plated three runs in the top of the third inning, aided by two Hornet errors. Phillips led off the top of the fifth with a double and the pinch runner scored after a sacrifice fly from Amber Sulter.

Amber Ingram threw a complete game for LC, scattering eight hits, one walk and no earned runs. Lauren Jones earned the win for Millsaps (1-1), allowing four hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

The Hornets (3-3) will face both Emory and Millsaps on Sunday.
