Hornet Pitching Dominant in Two More Victories at Salisbury Tourney

SALISBURY, MD – Katie Bruce, Caitlin Dolby and Tiffany Merrill combined to allow just one run Saturday afternoon as the Lynchburg College softball team rolled to a pair of victories at the Salisbury University Tournament. In four victories Friday and Saturday, the Hornets gave up only one run.

Bruce worked six innings in a 2-0 win over York College (PA) in the first game Saturday. She scattered six hits and two walks while striking out four. Merrill got out of a jam in the seventh and final frame to record the save. Sarah Smith was 2-4 with an RBI and Taylor Walker, Meagan Fredenberg and Rachel Gallagher all slapped base hits.

Dolby threw five scoreless innings giving up just one hit and one walk with four strikeouts in a 5-1 victory over Gettysburg College (PA). Melanie Tenney was 2-4 and scored twice and Stephanie Fedrigo went 2-4 with a home run. Gallagher also homered.

Lynchburg (12-2) has won six straight games and returns home to face Randolph (Wednesday at 3 p.m.) and Greensboro (Thursday at 3 p.m.) Colleges.
