Three Hornets Named to All-State Softball Team

EMORY, VA - Three Lynchburg College student-athletes earned spots recently on the 2010 all-state softball team, as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VASID).  

Sophomore shortstop Taylor Walker (Puquoson, VA/Puquoson) and senior outfielder Lauren Duguay (Williamsburg, VA/Jamestown) were named to the first team.

Walker had a superb season, hitting .346 with nine extra-base hits. The first-team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selection posted an on-base percentage of .427 and a slugging percentage of .495. Duguay, the ODAC Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year, also earned first-team academic all-district honors.  Duguay paced the Hornets with a .422 batting average and 36 RBI while posting on-base and slugging percentages of .500 and .633, respectively. She blasted seven home runs, was 10-10 in stolen base attempts and was mistake-free in the field in 35 chances.

Junior pitcher/designated hitter Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette), earned a spot on the all-state second team. She received first-team All- ODAC and second-team All-Atlantic Region accolades. The junior right-hander was 15-8 with a 2.67 ERA with 95 strikeouts in 146.2 innings. Bruce hit .323, drilling six home runs and eight doubles, and scored a team-high 34 runs.
