Hornets Men Win Third Straight Regional Title
HAMPTON, GA—The Lynchburg College men's cross country team went down to Georgia and won its third consecutive region championship, after earning 48 points on Saturday. The meet, held at the Nash Battlefield Farm, featured the top teams in the South/Southeast Region, including Centre College, Trinity University (Tx.), and host Emory University. Trinity finished second, 38 points behind the Hornets.
Four Hornets finished in the top 10, with the fifth runner still taking home all-region honors. Cody Stanton continued his impressive season, taking home the silver. He crossed the line in 25:22.36, which was almost a minute faster than his ODAC title performance two weeks ago. Lawrence Minor had the other top-five finish for LC. Minor ran the 8K in 25:53.13 to take fourth. He bettered his ODAC third-place finish time by 50 seconds.
Nolan Compton and Anthony McBride were the other two top-10 runners for Lynchburg on the day. Compton finished 8th at a time of 26:12.02. McBride crossed the line a second later to take ninth at 26:13.37. He barely edged out a runner from Trinity by four-tenths of a second. Just like Stanton and Minor, Compton and McBride's times were better than at the ODAC championship meet.
Evan Parry rounded out the LC scoring with a 25th place finish. His time of 26:57.45 helped secure the Hornets title.
Next week, Lynchburg will head to Terra Haute, IN and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology for the Division III National Championships.
John Kieffer of Centre won the individual title in 25:17.37.
