Seguin, TX - The Lynchburg College men's cross country team successfully defended its South/Southeast Regional Championship Saturday, outpacing 25 other schools, including runner-up Centre College. This marks the second-straight championship for the Hornet men and they automatically qualify as a team for the National Championship Meet next weekend. This was the Hornets sixth regional title in school history.

The Hornets were led by a sixth-place finish from sophomore Cody Stanton, running 26:36 (5:21/mi). Following Stanton was a pack of Lynchburg runners. Nolan Compton outkicked several athletes over the final straightaway to finish 18th overall in 27:10. Billy Orndorff and Anthony McBride were right behind finishing in the 25th and 26th positions with times of 27:23 and 27:26, respectively. Rounding out the top five was Daniel Cutright who finished in 37th position in a time of 27:44. "It was dusty and windy out there today, but I feel that we all ran great," said Stanton.

For their top 35 place finishes, Stanton (6th), Compton (18th), Orndorff (25th), and McBride (26th) earned South/Southeast Regional Team Honors.

"I couldn't be more proud of the way my guys ran today," said LC Head Coach Doug Thomasey. "The entire season I stressed how important it was to do the little things right and how important it is to run fast at the right times of the season. Being able to come out with a victory today really shows how tight of a team we really are. We stuck to our plan and it paid off."

This was the second straight race where the Hornets edged the runner-up team by one point, after winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference title two weekends ago. "I knew there were four teams in the running for the top two qualifying spots, but we ran a great race and came out on top," said Thomasey.

The Lynchburg men will now travel to Oshkosh, Wisconsin next Saturday to compete in the DIII National Cross Country Championships.
