Hornet Men's and Women's Cross Country Recognized in Pre-Season Rankings
LYNCHBURG, VA – Both the Lynchburg College men's and women's cross country teams received pre-season recognition this week with the release of national and regional polls.
The Hornet men are ranked first in the South/Southeast Region and 34th in Division III by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCCA). LC is the only Old Dominion Athletic Conference and regional team represented in the national poll. The Hornets won the South-Southeast Regional Championship last fall and took 29th at the NCAA National meet.
The LC women's team is ranked seventh in the regional pre-season poll. The Hornets finished fifth at last year's South/Southeast Regional Championships and had two student-athletes advance to the national meet.
The men of North Central College were chosen as the No. 1 team in the land according to the national poll. Defending women's national champion Middlebury will begin the 2011 season as the top team as well.
