Hornets Take Part in Final Qualifier; Wilson Nearly Sets School Record

GREENSBORO, NC – Six athletes of the Lynchburg College men's and women's track and field teams headed to North Carolina A&T University on Sunday for its final qualifier before the National Championship meet in an attempt to solidify their positions in the rankings.  The meet was once again filled with members of Division I, II, and III teams in attempts to qualify at the aptly named Aggie Last Chance Meet.

Kim Alfaro had a fine toss in the hammer throw, finishing second in the event behind one Division I entrant.  Her toss of 165'7" defeated four other Division I throwers.  Aleshia Washington ran the third fastest 200 meter dash in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) during the year.  Katie Miller ran in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in a time of 15.89.

The men's team was highlighted by senior Greg Wilson.  Needing to improve his distance in the hammer, Wilson did just that, throwing a new career best, which was only seven inches shorter than the school record.  Wilson finished second in the meet with a distance of 181'11" and is currently ranked 20th in the nation.

Tom Sippie ran in the 400 meter dash and finished 11th beating out several Division I runners and Brian Fuentes took part in the 400 meter hurdles, crossing the line in as the top Division III hurdler.

The NCAA will release its selection of athletes next Sunday at 9 a.m.  Athletes will not know their final standing until then.
